GAS CHLORINATION

Chlorine Gas is the most widely used chemical for disinfecting all varieties of water. It possesses a very residual oxidizing capacity and is therefore useful for the destruction of organic matter/waterborne pathogens. It is the least expensive form of chlorine to use. Water which is intended for human consumption must be free from bacteria/organic matter/pathogens. This can only be achieved by disinfecting the water by injecting chlorine gas in the required concentration. Chlorine gas is about two and one-half times heavier than air. Therefore, any chlorine leak will seek the lowest level. Liquid chlorine (not water chlorine solution) freezes at about -150°F (-100°C) and boils at approximately -30°F (-34°C). Chlorine gas is the most economical process of disinfection for any application.
