BALLAST WATER TREATMENT SYSTEM

Ballast Water Management System

  •   Electrical power consumption is provided for full ballast water flow rates at a maximum dosing rate of 12 ppm and a minimum dosing rate of 4 ppm with full marine salinity seawater (36PSU) at 15C slipstream (1%) feed to the OCEANPURE®. Under normal conditions of operation, the injection (dosing) rate will be in the range of 6-8 ppm.
  • Footprint for sub-assembly system design noted. The footprint will vary for the unitized system design.
  • Neutralization typical at 1 ppm TRO.

One of the essential rituals of the ship during the voyage is loading and discharge of ballast water. Large vessels load thousands of tons of water to ensure safe operation and easy maneuverability of this ship while on the sea. The ballast water may contain several species of microorganisms which when transferred to another ecosystem could thrive and endanger public health and have an adverse effect on the ecosystem. The best way to protect the marine environment is to use Ballast Water Treatment Systems.

Ballast Water Treatment refers to disinfecting the ballast water to keep it free from organisms before it discharged into the sea. Although it is often used interchangeably with ballast water exchange, this process of water treatment is completely different from simply flushing out the ballast tanks.

When water from one ecozone is released onto another ecosystem, it can pose serious problems by spreading of aquatic organisms and can endanger the environment. That’s why it’s imperative that ships and marine vessels use ballast water treatment before discharging the ballast water.
